International Ballet Festival will arrive soon in Havana

By Elena Godinez Dalmau

The Alicia Alonso International Ballet Festival of Havana reaches its twenty-seventh edition, more renewed and with the desire to show the public the best of national talent from the main halls of our cultural panorama.

This event will take place from October 20 to November 13, which is also linked to the tribute for the 75th anniversary of the creation of the National Ballet of Cuba, which bears the name of the prima Ballerina Assoluta of Cuba, as reported at a press conference chaired by Viengsay Valdés, president of the festival and director of the National Ballet of Cuba; Fernando Rojas, Deputy Minister of Culture, Heriberto Cabezas; organizer of the ballet festival and by Mauricio Abreu, head of press and publicity of the National Ballet of Cuba.

The event will be attended by companies from various regions of the world and also by Cuban dance groups such as Mi Compañía, Mal Paso, Acosta Danza and Danza Contemporánea de Cuba, a meeting that will take place in the first week of the event and then the main ballet works will meet such as Giselle and Seventh Symphony together with guests from the international scene from countries such as Norway, Berlin, Rome, Mexico, Argentina, among others, who will share the stage with the Cuban dancers.

The largest ballet event in the country arrives for the first time without the presence of Alicia Alonso, one of the fundamental motivations that reflects in the dancers and the organizing committee of the event the desire to show the public that Cuban ballet continues to be a reflection of our best cultural essences.

At a press conference, Viengsay Valdés informed those present that it is a festival that will not only reach Havana, but also provinces such as Cienfuegos and Matanzas and, in a larger aspiration, it is expected that it will also have an impact in Pinar del Río. The director of the National Ballet of Cuba is celebrating her 25th anniversary in 2022 of having danced the work Giselle for the first time and that fills her with satisfaction, so much so that she confessed that she is already preparing for her next stage debut.

Until mid-November, the Cuban and foreign public will be able to enjoy various presentations that confirm the Havana International Ballet Festival as one of the most traditional and prestigious events in the world of dance.

Tickets will be on sale at the University of Havana and at the National Theater of Cuba. We share the program of the event.
