THE CUBAN ASSOCIATION OF THE UNITED NATIONS, ACNU. ANNIVERSARY75

It was established in 1947 by prominent Cuban personalities from various political and cultural spheres.

Among its creators were Juan Marinello, Vicentina Antuña, Fernando Ortiz, Carlos Rafael Rodríguez, Ofelia Domínguez, Flavio Bravo, Cosme de la Torriente, Lázaro Peña, Blas Roca Calderío, Manuel Bisbé and Jorge Mañach.

It is a non-governmental, non-profit organization registered in the Registry of Associations of the Ministry of Justice. It voluntarily brings together natural and legal persons, genuinely interested in learning about and participating in the management of the United Nations Organization.

The Cuban Association of the United Nations is the Cuban civil society organization that promotes and defends nationally and internationally, in the sphere of associations and Non-Governmental Organizations, the purposes and principles expressed in the Charter of the United Nations, as well as the principles and values ​​of the foreign policy of the Cuban Revolution.

The Cuban Association of the United Nations has its headquarters in a building located at J street number 514 corner 25 in Vedado, Plaza de la Revolución municipality, in Havana.

The ACNU has two categories of members: general members and individual members.

Collective partners are considered Cuban civil society organizations registered in the Registry of Associations of the Ministry of Justice and Central State Administration Agencies, as well as Cuban institutions that, due to their work at the national level, have a close relationship with the agencies of the United Nations system.

The individual partners are those natural persons interested in the work of the Association who, accepting its purposes and objectives, have formalized their corresponding registration. They are distributed as follows: Workers, Students (university and intermediate level) and Retirees.

The functions of this Association are multiple and among them is that of disseminating the main positions and lines of work of Cuba's foreign policy with non-governmental organizations and international civil society, mainly those related to the United Nations system. . The ACNU also has among its essential purposes to advise non-governmental organizations in Cuba about the procedure for processing the Consultative Status before the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) that encourages mutual rapprochement between people and problems in order to promote the adoption collective action to achieve a sustainable world.

UNC officers and members participate in key activities and meetings convened by the United Nations for non-governmental and civil society organizations.

In addition, the Cuban Association of the United Nations acts as a forum for convening Non-Governmental Organizations and organizations of our civil society on priority issues of Cuba's foreign policy, as well as on issues on the United Nations agenda.

The ACNU develops ties with the United Nations system in Cuba in relation to the celebration of World Days in various spheres and also proposes the implementation of projects as well as carries out activities of solidarity and support for peoples facing situations of conflict and/or threats to its territorial integrity and sovereignty.

There are many more objectives of this Association at the national and international levels and there is no doubt that it continues to carry out fruitful work seven and a half decades after it was founded.
