1962. The Cuban Radio Broadcasting Institute (ICR) is created in Havana, although from its founding stage it served all the radio stations as well as the existing television channels in the country.

Since its creation, the aforementioned organization had the mission of offering radio and television programming, bearer of high political, ideological, social, ethical and aesthetic values, which would contribute to the development of knowledge and culture in general, as well as the recreation and defense of the principles and interests of the nation and all its citizens.

It has also always had the purpose of deepening the highest patriotic and internationalist ideals of the Cuban people, in the struggle for their independence, sovereignty and national identity and their love for the construction of socialism in our country.

In 1975 it was decided to change the name of the organization to the Cuban Institute of Radio and Television, ICRT, and kept the same powers and objectives.

 

1982. The Alejo Carpentier Cultural Promotion Center was inaugurated in Havana.

Later converted into the Foundation that bears the name of the relevant Cuban writer, it provides primary attention to the dissemination and investigation of Carpentier's work both nationally and internationally.

Among its main functions is to establish relations of cultural exchange with institutions from various countries.

The Foundation announces the Razón de Ser Award with the purpose of contributing to the bibliographic curriculum of authors who required time and financial support to complete their projects related to art and literature.

In 1983, on the occasion of the 79th anniversary of Carpentier's birth, the Library of Contemporary Authors was inaugurated, dedicated mainly to narrative and literary theory and criticism. The library started with over a thousand titles.

On April 16, 2018, the house where Alejo Carpentier lived in Havana in Vedado, headquarters of the Foundation's presidency, as well as the assets related to his literary and artistic work, as well as his personal belongings, which were jealously guarded by his widow Lilia Esteban de Carpentier, they were declared Patrimony of the Cuban Nation.
