Cuban President presided opening ceremony of the Informática 2022 Convention.

Prensa Latina reports that at the opening of the conclave, Mayra Arevich Marín, Minister of Communications, explained that the new goal proposed by the largest of the Antilles is to take advantage of what has been achieved in terms of informatization and to incorporate the study, assimilation and adaptation of international trends.

 

On his part, Wilfredo González Vidal, First Deputy Minister of Communications, stressed that the objective of the hybrid event will be to address the exponential horizon of information and communication technologies, in support of the main transformations of the Cuban nation.

 

He also specified that the event's program consists of 60 conferences to be attended by more than 750 national and international delegates, representing 22 countries.

According to the official, the debates, grouped in nine scientific events, will focus on the impact and challenges related to digital transformation, which brings together the topics of government and e-commerce, challenges of computer science and the development of the applications industry and computer services.

The actions of science and technology parks as dynamic models; electronics, automation and robotics and cybersecurity will be key issues.

At the same time, the usual fair that accompanies the Convention will take place, a space that for the first time will be virtual and where projects, technologies and products that contribute to the strengthening of the IT services industry will be exhibited.

Miguel Alcaine Castro, representative of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), acknowledged that despite the existence of the digital divide, Cuba has made considerable efforts to expand access to broadband infrastructure, focusing on the possibilities offered by this progress together with the effective use of new technologies.

In order to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda and improve the efficiency of connectivity, the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean must prioritize infrastructure, innovation and inclusion, which are the fundamental lines of the ITU's strategy.

Jorge Luis Perdomo Di-Lella, member of the Central Committee and Vice Prime Minister of the Republic, and Aylin Febles Estrada, president of the Union of Cuban Informatics, also presided over the inaugural session.

Finally, Díaz-Canel visited the Cuba Stand and saw first-hand the more than 30 projects that make up the nation's ICT panorama.
