A collection of valuable set of dishes in the Museum of Decorative Arts

Part of the European and Asian pottery used by Cuban eminent families of the colony and neocolony was shown this Saturday in the Museum of Decorative Arts, as part of the exhibition Infusion with art.

Esther Cabrera San Miguel, who is the curator of the sample told the News Cuban Agency (Agencia Cubana de Noticias) that the selection of the pieces, from XIX and XX centuries was done taking into account the variety of designs and techniques as it includes set of porcelain dishes combined with silversmithing

She made clear: «I wanted to set the differences between coffee pots and teapots, which are different inside and in the strainers the last ones had to separate the liquid from the tea leaf».

Products of important manufacturers like: Sévres from France, Stoke on trent, from England; Bavaria, from Germany and Vienna, from Austria were served in both kinds of containers.

Trays, dishes, cups, vessels to serve chocolate, cream containers and mugs for milk and liqueurs from Europe will also be exhibited. They were part of the set of dishes belonging to eminent families of the colony and he republic times.

Cabrera San Miguel said that Infusions with Art explores the technique of enamel in bronze that is generally unknown because the country were the pieces are from is not possible to identified but the context they represent shows drawings from Asia.

The specialist said the dishes were in perfect state of preservation although some of them were used in monthly shows organized by the museum before.

This exhibition was first shown through the social networks of the institution                     during the months of the worst epidemiological situation.

The once residence of the family Gómez Mena, where the museum of Decorative Arts is, since 1964, stores up more than 30 thousand pieces of high historical value that is increasing through donations and exchanges.
