Born in Havana, on March 14, 1873 and educated by patriotic parents, since he was an adolescent he felt motivated by the cause of the independence of Cuba. An outstanding Cuban independence fighter in the 19th century, he turned out to be the Mambi chief most tenaciously pursued by the Spanish forces in areas near Havana. Nowadays, with the inscription on the handle of the date of his fall in combat, there is a monument in the area of Guanabacoa in Havana that was inaugurated on March 19, 1939. It highlights this brave fighter who was also Chief of Cavalry of the Havana Regiment.

1996. Andrés Echeverría dies in Havana.

He became known in the artistic world as Niño Rivera.  He was born on April 18, 1919, in the city of Pinar del Río, and in 1934 he moved to Havana and joined the Boloña sextet.  Later he was part of the Sexteto Bolero and in 1945 he created the group that he would lead until his death.

He was considered the "father of harmony in the tres" for his harmonic and sonorous contributions to this essential instrument of Cuban traditional music, originally from the eastern region of Baracoa.

As a composer he was the creator of melodies such as Carnaval del amor, Monte adentro, Tú y mi música and many others; but the most popular of his works was the one entitled El Jamaiquino", of which several versions were very popular in different Latin American countries.
