Rosario Guillaume Pérez was born in Havana.

From a family of liberal  and justice ideas,  she was linked to working sectors and in 1918 she registered in the  Female Club of Cuba. Affectionately named Charito by her colleagues, her first political activities were aimed to defend women´s rights.  Since 1922, she joined the  University Reform movement as a female leader headed by Julio Antonio Mella. Years later, in 1926, she became a member of the Communist Party and was introduced to the Party by the revolutionary Rubén Martínez Villena.

Julio Antonio Mella

He was a prestigious student  leader and revolutionary fighter who was murdered on January 10, 1929 in the Mexican capital by those elements to the service of dictatorship  regimen that existed in Cuba at that time. Mella had been born in Havana, on March 25, 1903.  Since he was very young he manifested his political ideas and convictions and his willingness to contribute to the revolutionary fight within the  University of Havana where he was studying at the time. At the end of 1928, he was linked to the Nationalist Party of Cuba  and he proposed a joint action against Machado`s dictatorship.  When his plans  were known by the dictatorial regimen, he was murdered in the Mexican capital on January 10, 1929.

Rubén Martínez Villena

Villena was an oustanding poet and revolutionary fighter. He affirmed in one of his works that we needed a charge to kill rascals, to conclude the work of the revolutions and as such he dedicated his short,  but fruitful life to make a significant contribution to people´s fight for their real liberation.  He was  also one of the main participants in the so- called Protesta de los 13  in Havana  on March 18, 1923.  From 1928, he stopped writing verses and started to  write revolutionary  prose which he wrote for several publications.  Later, he got sick of tuberculosis.  He had an outstanding  participation in the destruction of Machado´s dictatorship in August, 1933. A few months later, he was hospitalized in  Sanatorio La Esperanza where he died on January 16, 1934.
