Fidel forever

Fidel repeatedly said that without the people there is no Revolution or work possible. The leader of the Revolution saw himself as part of the people and claimed that his public mission would end the day he could not stop to discuss with him. This relationship was based on honesty, dialogue and constant listening to popular opinions, which cemented mutual trust. In addition, the Commander rejected the need for special escorts or protections because he always wanted to be "mixed with the people," reflecting genuine humility and closeness.

This is demonstrated by the Caravan of Freedom and the triumphant entrance to Havana (January 8, 1959) seven days of travel from Santiago de Cuba, Fidel Castro Ruz and his fighters entered Havana in a caravan that toured the main streets of the capital, decorated by the people with Cuban flags and July 26, while an immense crowd received them with cheers and flowers.

The route in Havana included emblematic sites such as the Cotorro, the Castle of Atarés, the headquarters of the Navy of War, the Presidential Palace (where Fidel delivered a speech from the northern terrace), the Malecón and the 23rd Avenue, ending in the military camp of Columbia, former bastion of the Batista tyranny; and at each stop, he addressed the people, warning about the difficulties to come and stressing that the tyranny had been overthrown, but that much remained to be done ..... current independence that shows its acute vision.

The crowd that accompanied Fidel in Havana was described as a village mar and a "goods of multitudes," reflecting the deep connection between the close leader and dialogue with the Havana people where he spoke directly with artists, students and workers, showing his genuine interest in everyday life and his problems.

His ability to listen and share with people earned him a special place in the hearts of Cubans, consolidating a bond that transcended the political to be also moral and cultural

The Plaza de la Revolución was consolidated as the symbolic epicenter of this relationship, where programmatic speeches were delivered that defined the political and social direction of the country. These moments in Havana exemplify the special link between Fidel and his people, based on the confidence, closeness and active participation of the population in continuity... in the legacy.
