US blockade has a harmful impact on the Cuban energy sector

According to a report by the Cuban News Agency, the figure exceeds by nearly 50 million the one reported between January and July last year, in accordance with the Report of Cuba on Resolution 70/5 of the United Nations General Assembly, entitled Necessity of ending the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States of America against Cuba.

He clarified, however, that such data does not illustrate the true impact on the country's energy stability under very complex conditions as the availability of generating plants is limited due to the lack of fuel, spare parts and other resources for their repair and maintenance.

The few suppliers that have decided to maintain the supply to the nation have increased their prices considerably due to the risk implied by their management in view of the ruthless policy, he warned when referring to the effects on daily life and the stress caused by the intermittent interruptions of the electric service, in spite of the government's efforts to seek solutions.

He gave the example of the German firm Brüel Kjaer Vibro GmbH, supplier of the technology for the vibration monitoring systems of the thermal turbines of the Unión Nacional Eléctrica.

The latter informed that it would not enter into contracts with the Cuban importing company ENERGOIMPORT if it did not make its payments in advance, while its bank recommended it not to operate in Cuba due to the application of Title III of the Helms-Burton Act.

He also cited the case of the French supplier CNIM, which informed DEVEXPORT in October 2021 that it could not continue with the contracts for spare parts for the Antonio Guiteras power plant in Matanzas province.

The decision in this regard was due to the fact that, after a monetary restructuring, the group had committed not to finance, facilitate or develop activities with any country subject to the sanctions of the Office of Foreign Assets Control and the US State Department.

Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, Minister of Foreign Affairs (MINREX), recently presented in Havana a detailed update on the effects of the economic, financial and commercial blockade imposed by the U.S. government 60 years ago and which has been intensified to the point of exhaustion.

Rodriguez Parrilla offered details on the document in the Camilo Cienfuegos Hall of his agency, to a full house of journalists from national organizations and 40 correspondents from 25 press media from 13 countries, which included the main impacts of the U.S. harassment between August 2021 and February 2022.

The Cuban Foreign Ministry announced on the social network Twitter that on November 2 and 3, Cuba will present for the 30th time before the United Nations General Assembly the resolution on the need to put an end to the U.S. blockade.
