Havana ephemeris. October 7.

 1877.  The Anthropological Society of Cuba is founded in Havana.

He settled in the building of the Royal Academy of Medical, Physical and Natural Sciences of Havana. It was chaired by Felipe Poey, Antonio Mestre, Enrique José Varona, Antonio Bachiller y Morales, Luis Montané and Juan Sánchez Fernández.

In his performance he carried out a remarkable scientific activity in the promotion of the knowledge of anthropology in the country.

It enjoyed recognition in the scientific world of the last quarter of the 19th century, due to the number of papers presented in its sessions, the depth of its discussions and the prestige of its founding members and those who later joined its ranks.

 

1924. Rosario Dubrocá Rodríguez dies in Havana.

She was the female who, with the authorization of the Liberation Army, founded the Cuban Red Cross. She also created several blood hospitals for the care of the wounded in rural areas during the war.

During the independence struggle she actively collaborated for the liberation of Cuba from the Spanish yoke. She was also one of the initiators of the Cuban Nursing Corps.

At the age of 25, she founded the first Hospital in San José de las Lajas, to serve the patriots who were fighting for Cuba. The hospital had five spacious rooms and about a hundred beds, with the necessary medical staff.

Her birth took place in the town of Jagüey Grande, province of Matanzas, in January 1873.

 

1972.  In an evening of homage to Commander Ernesto Che Guevara, held in Havana, the "Moncada" group made its first presentation to the public.

This group directed by Jorge Gómez, was initially made up of university students. The "Moncada" Group has made several international tours and enjoys great popular acceptance both in Cuba and abroad.

 

1980.  The provincial newspaper Tribuna de La Habana is founded.

Since its creation, this newspaper reflects various aspects of the life and work of the inhabitants of the Cuban capital and other issues of general interest.

Many were the names that were proposed to designate the newspaper in its birth, and finally the one suggested by Jorge Enrique Mendoza was chosen.

 

2004.  Consuelo Vidal dies in Havana.

She became an excellent entertainer and host of television programs in Cuba, as well as one of the most relevant actresses in the performing arts scene, as well as a relevant show host. She was the founder of Cuban Television. In the years of the 50s and 60s of the last century, she was the protagonist of soap operas such as “Tierra brava” and “Entre monte y cielo”. Also since 1962, her voice gave life to well-loved children's characters in Cuba, such as "Amigo y sus amiguitos", and she participated in other popular programs for children such as "Tía Tatatales". For years she was an actress and host of the popular humorous program "Behind the Facade," which was broadcast weekly on Cuban television. She also participated in several films. She stands out for her performance in the film Los Pájaros Tirando a la Escopeta, which earned her the Best Female Performance Award at the II Biennial of Cinema in Bogotá, Colombia.

Her artistic work carried out for more than fifty years constitutes an example of consecration and Cuban identity.

Her birth had occurred in the Cuban capital on December 4, 1930.
