They celebrate in Havana the Day of Latin American Dentistry.

In a ceremony held at the "Raúl González Sánchez" Faculty of Stomatology in Havana. They recognize the work carried out by stomatologists, technicians and students to preserve the oral health of our peoples

  


In an act carried out this October 3 at the "Raúl González Sánchez" Faculty of Stomatology of Havana, the Day of Latin American Stomatology was celebrated, with the purpose of recognizing the work carried out by stomatologists, technicians and students to preserve the oral health of our towns, and in memory of the creation of the Latin American Odontological Federation (FOLA) in 1917; commemoration that was instituted this same day of 1929 in our country.

At the ceremony, as part of the "Stories of Lives" project carried out by the National Information Center for Medical Sciences (Infomed), the audiovisual was released detailing the academic, managerial and human trajectory of the Professor and Consultant, Doctor of Science ( Dr.C.) Félix Alberto Companioni Landín, one of the most outstanding personalities of Cuban dentistry, who also received a well-deserved recognition for his contribution to Public Health and especially to the development of Dentistry in Cuba, from Dr. Reinol García Moreiro, Deputy Minister of Public Health.

When taking the floor, Dr. Companioni Landín expressed his gratitude for everything expressed about him, emphasizing that he has always considered the students his friends, and that he is willing at any time and in any situation to offer them his help.

In the main words, the doctor of sciences Mariela García Jordán, National Director of Stomatology of the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP), recognized all the professionals and technicians who with their daily performance give their wisdom, contributing to the improvement of the stomatological sciences, as well as the students who are headed in that direction.

She highlighted that Cuba today has more than 19,000 professionals, more than 10,000 graduates and technicians in dental care and prosthetics.

“Medical care is provided in more than 1,200 services, for which we have more than 6,000 dental sets. We have healthcare teaching scenarios in all the Medical Sciences Universities in the country. Our care model is that of Comprehensive General Stomatology, through which promotion, prevention and rehabilitation actions are carried out, prioritizing the population under 19 years of age, pregnant women, mothers of children under one year of age, the disabled, as well as adults. elderly”, he pointed out. García Jordán, also highlighted the multiple efforts that our government is making to achieve the sustainability of health services, at a time when the United States administration intensifies the economic, commercial and financial blockade, limiting or making access impossible. equipment, drugs, devices and medical technologies, which has had a significant impact on dental services.

"Despite this, with a lot of effort, it has been possible to sustain a Public, Universal, free and accessible Health system for 100% of people," he stressed.

Finally, he thanked and congratulated all those who make up that army of white coats who fight for the oral health of our people, for so much dedication, ratifying, the commitment and the challenge of continuing to improve oral health indicators, preparing the services and resources to face the aging of our population and increase everyone's satisfaction with the services provided.

For her part, within the framework of this celebration, the University of Medical Sciences of Havana decided to stimulate and recognize the outstanding professional career of Dr.C. Ileana Bárbara Grau León, Dean of the Faculty of Stomatology of Havana; Dr. Carmen Dolores Hernández Martínez and Dr.C. Denia Morales Navarro, all members of the prestigious faculty of the Faculty of Stomatology of Havana.

In the same way, this educational institution was awarded a special and collective award for the excellence achieved in the results of its academic, scientific and extension processes, as well as for the well-earned prestige that it enjoys nationally and internationally in its outstanding educational work. technicians, professionals and specialists.

At the close of the commemoration, a plaque was unveiled at the Orthodontic Clinic, in honor of Dr.C. Rigoberto Otaño Lugo, illustrious professor of this Faculty, Professor of Merit, Full Professor, dean of this center for more than 15 years, vice president of FOLA for two periods and then its president, as well as an executive member of the International Dental Federation.

The meeting was also attended by Dr.C. Mairim Lago Queija, rector of the University of Medical Sciences of Havana, other officials of the MINSAP, of the provincial directorate of Health, as well as students, residents, professors and workers.
