Havana ephemeris. September 22.

1877. The poet Felipe López de Briñas dies.

In 1840 he became known as a journalist and poet in the publications Faro Industrial and La Prensa. The first poetry book of his makes it known in the year 1849. He was a collaborator in almost all the magazines and literary newspapers of the time of his existence.

He directed the newspaper El Liceo de La Habana, an institution that named him an honorary member and favored the publication of his poetry.

His birth occurred in the Cuban capital on June 18, 1822.

 

1959. Commander Camilo Cienfuegos closes the graduation ceremony of a course for Rebel Army officers in Havana.

Camilo points out: “We trust you, compañeros, the people of Cuba trust you, and the people of Cuba trust you, and we hope that trust will not be betrayed.”

 

1960. The first Cuban stamp dedicated to the Olympic Games It was dedicated to the XVII Olympiad held in Rome, Italy.

The stamps were made up of four pieces of 1, 2, 8 and 12 cents, which exhibited the disciplines of shooting, sailing, athletics and boxing.

It was designed by the artist Luís Martínez Pedro and is considered by specialists on the subject as a well-achieved work within the Olympic theme, carried out by the Cuban Post Office.

 

 

1988. Roberto Garriga dies in Havana.

He was a radio and television director, founder of the University Theater and Cuban Television.

At the triumph of the Revolution in 1959 he had vast experience as an author, actor, adapter and radio and television director.

He was a founding professor at the Instituto Superior de Arte and taught playwriting at the San Antonio de los Baños International Film School.

Through his existence he received numerous awards, among others, the Raúl Gómez García Distinction.

His birth occurred on June 22, 1926 in Havana.

 

1988. A ceremony is held at the Havana Convention Center in which the Sports Medal of Honor is awarded to 173 leading figures in Cuban sports. Among the winners were Javier Sotomayor, Ana Fidelia Quirot, Lourdes Gourriel, Félix Savón, Lourdes Medina and Alejo O'Reilly.

 

2007. Commander in Chief Fidel Castro receives the President of the People's Republic of Angola José Eduardo dos Santos.

An hour and 45 minutes lasted the friendly meeting.

They recalled the intimate ties between the two peoples and exchanged information on the situation in the two countries and the opportunities that are opening up to deepen bilateral relations in different economic and social spheres.

José Eduardo, for his part, highlighted the value of the Cuban internationalist presence in Africa and the joint struggles to preserve the independence of Angola.
