The members of the Council of State analyzed important issues on the country's economic-social agenda in Monday's session headed by the President of this body, Esteban Lazo Hernández, and with the participation of the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Party and President of the Republic of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, and the Prime Minister, Manuel Marrero Cruz.

As the first point of the day, the Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Planning, Alejandro Gil Fernández, presented before the members of this body the progress of compliance with the economic measures approved in the Ninth Ordinary Period of Sessions, of the IX Legislature , of the National Assembly of People's Power, held in July 2022; aimed at boosting the domestic market, from the collection of foreign currency, the increase in income from exports and the reactivation of national production.

"We work with the required intensity so that these measures have the expected impact on the population," said Gil Fernández.

Subsequently, the members of the Council of State examined the updating of the measures approved by the Government for the recovery of the pig program and its linkage with the industry, information offered by the Minister of Agriculture, Ydael Pérez Brito, and the president of the Sugar Group Azcuba, Julio Andres Garcia Perez.

In the debate it was confirmed that the production of pork is a priority to ensure social consumption and self-sufficiency of the population, the demands of tourism and gastronomy. Hence, the search for alternatives and variants is required, in order to recover production levels to respond to existing needs.

In turn, in the session of this September 19, the decree laws "On the production, development and use of biofertilizers, biostimulants and biopesticides for agricultural use" and "On the Social Security of the Owners and Contracted Workers of Local Development Projects».

The first of them, presented by the head of Agriculture, takes into account the interest of the Cuban Government to recover and expand the production capacities of biological fertilizers with a view to satisfying the demands of agriculture and possible export. This regulatory framework will make it possible to guarantee a more efficient use of nutrients, reduce the amounts of fertilizers and financial expenditure to favor the establishment of crops and increase agricultural yields.

For its part, the second decree law, presented by the Minister of Labor and Social Security, Marta Elena Feitó Cabrera, establishes the social security protection regime for the owners of local development projects and the people hired for their execution.

The Council of State also evaluated the proposal for the designation of the heads of diplomatic missions abroad, a point presented by Gerardo Peñalver Portal, first deputy minister of Foreign Affairs.

Homero Acosta Álvarez, secretary of the Council of State, reported on compliance with the mandates set forth in the provisions of the decree laws issued by this body. While José Luis Toledo Santander, president of the Committee on Constitutional and Legal Affairs of the Cuban Parliament, offered a detailed explanation of the fulfillment of the mandates set forth in the provisions of the laws approved after the proclamation of the Constitution of the Republic.

In this regard, Lazo Hernández signified the duty of the Council of State to ensure compliance with the laws approved by the National Assembly and also to follow up on its own provisions, in accordance with its constitutional powers.
