They present the book The Radial Debate in Cuba.

The text, the work of María de la Caridad Duranza Martínez and Mario Masvidal Saavedra, reviews the historical development of the radio debate, and specifies its characteristics, functions and structural variants.

Duranza Martínez, who has been a host and writer of radio programs since 1995, thanked Editorial En Vivo and the entire team that supported the materialization of the book.

Regarding the elaboration of it, he said that it was a process of searching for information around the topic of the debate, which involved trips to several provincial stations throughout the nation, to learn from their experiences.

Masvidal Saavedra, professor, writer and host of radio and television programs, recalled the tireless support of Felipe Morfa, prestigious radio director and audiovisual producer, passionate about Cuban culture and especially music.

In the work, the authors delved into theoretical and methodological aspects of studies on the media, genres and their functions from an interdisciplinary point of view.

During the activity, Yuzaima Ohilda Cardona Villena, general director of the Cuban Radio, highlighted the need to strengthen the radio debate and face the national events as a way to summon the audiences, mainly young people.

Cuban radio was transmitted for the first time, experimentally, on August 22, 1922, by Station 2LC, located at Animas 99 (current No. 457) in Havana, which began its transmissions with the cannon shot at 9 a.m. the night, with musical spaces, the state of the time and the service of the hour.

Although radio station 2LC is the first to put its signal on the ether from Cuban soil, it is not considered as the date that marks the official start of radio in Cuba, which is established on October 10, 1922, when the PWX station, whose equipment was installed in the Central Building of the Cuban Telephone Company, on Calle del Águila No. 161. This day an inaugural speech by the then President of the Republic Alfredo Zayas was broadcast in Spanish and English. .
