
Started Summer School of the University of Havana
Starting this Tuesday, the Summer School of the University of Havana (UH) is taking place with the participation of almost 280 students.
According to the Cuban News Agency (ACN), the academic meeting will meet for the first time in an integrated manner, in a proposal that includes topics such as tourism, economy, humanities and exact sciences.
Maday Alonso del Rivero Antigua, vice-rector for Research and Postgraduate Studies at the UH, in statements to this media outlet, reported that until July 20, the classes will be held in different faculties and educational centers, and will be attended by undergraduate students, workers from all sectors or people with no employment relationship.
She specified that the attendees, at the end of the school period, will receive a certificate of participation, and students who have a university level will obtain credit, since it will be considered as a postgraduate course.
The course The Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, which aims to analyze the theory around this topic, its significance, perspectives and controversies, is the proposal of the Colegio San Gerónimo, in Old Havana.
For their part, professors from the Center for the Study of the Cuban Economy will offer a course on the current situation of the Cuban economy and the challenges it faces.
It will also include an analysis of the international monetary and financial panorama in times of crisis, as well as the dominant trends and current changes in contemporary international trade relations.
The Faculty of Tourism proposes to reflect on the tourist interpretation of natural heritage with its biotic and abiotic resources, whose purpose is to learn to identify and value natural attractions with potential.
As part of this program, lessons will be given aimed at knowing the requirements of incentive tourism, the protocol of this economic activity, and emotional intelligence for socio-business management.
From the Higher Institute of Technologies and Applied Sciences (InSTEC) there will be an exchange on catalysis, while the Faculty of Chemistry will teach classes on safety in the laboratory and the environment, together with the methodology of scientific research.
An introductory course to cosmetics is proposed by the Institute of Pharmacy and Food, which includes a class on medicinal plants and their use in both popular science and medical practice.
The ACN specifies that in institutions associated with the UH other summer courses are held on the culture and traditions of the People's Republic of China, materials science, and one in agreement with the Cuban Law Society.
This year the Summer School celebrates its 53rd birthday.
