Carmen Solar, a prestigious actress and program director, has contributed to the development of radio in Cuba through several decades with her constant energy, her smile and the brilliance of her talent.

For her meritorious work, she has received various awards and recognitions, including the National Radio Award, as well as the status of Artist of Merit for Radio and Television,

But the most significant recognition that she can exhibit, and that surely due to her modesty she does not do so, although she feels it within herself, is the affection and respect that those who have worked alongside her have paid her, those who have seen her vibrate of emotion for her peculiar way of directing a group of actors, the narrator as well as the sound producer, the musicalizer and the gimmick during the recording of the radio programs and it is that she with her hands, with the movement of her body , with the passion that characterizes him, assumes, from the director's seat, the role of each character and their moods according to the action and indicates the intensity of the background music or the appropriate sound effect.

Carmen is a whole program in the studio, I say more is a story that she turns into an artistic fact.

In turn, Carmen, who turns 95 this July 8, feels the joy of having contributed to the formation of a large number of infants who, at a certain moment and for some time, were part of what would be her Rapilisto Correspondent .

A good number of these boys and girls have later become outstanding writers and actors and others, although they did not continue in the development of their lives in artistic work, have also recognized the values that Carmen Solar contributed to them.

Carmen Solar was born on July 8, 1927 in the Old Havana area. Her father was a cigar maker at the Gener factory.

In 1933 they moved that factory to Güines and to avoid having to make daily trips, Carmen's father moved with his wife and his children to that town. In Güines, her mother created a neighborhood school because she liked being a teacher and teaching artistic disciplines.

When Carmen was eight years old, the CMRT radio station in Güines was founded and she then participated in some programs as an amateur. She began singing accompanied by a pianist.

In 1945 her relatives returned to Havana. Then she enrolled in the School of Arts and Crafts. She initially studied Industrial Chemistry.

In that center she met and interacted with those who, over time, became figures of Cuban culture and of radio and television specifically..

In 1949 she appeared in a contest hosted by José Antonio Alonso on Radio Mambí. She recited some costumbrista verses and won first place.

After having obtained that award, José Antonio Alonso gave her a quarter of an hour a day in the station's transmission so that she could recite poems that she selected. That was how she began to participate systematically in a radio program. There she met Violeta Vergara and through her she entered the Television School with Gaspar Pumarejo.

In 1953 she participated in another contest and later she was able to participate in television programs.

The following year she proposed to Pumarejo to create a television program where she worked for a long time and where figures of the stature of Bartolomé Moré, Benny Moré, Ignacio Villa, Bola de Nieve, Esther Borja and the actress María de los Angeles Santana.

In 1961 Julio Lot assigned her to a children's program so that she would work as an entertainer. She took the test and was chosen.

In that program, "The world of children", she animated, recited, sang, talked and dramatized with the friendly clown played by actor Edwin Fernández, Trompoloco.

During the years of the sixties, Carmen Solar also attended and participated as an actress in other programs on radio and television.

She later began to work at Radio Progreso, which has been her great home through decades.

Beyond the commendable work of Carmen Solar on Cuban radio, and in a very special way on Radio Progreso, she has also participated in the dubbing of films and voices for cartoons for the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (ICAIC) and television. She has participated in national and international events.

To Carmen, in her 95 springs, with the brilliance of the sun that emanates from your fruitful life, you continue and will continue to be a source of motivation and teaching, and in a very special way in this year in which the centenary of radio in Cuba is celebrated.
