1856. Desiderio Herrera Cabrera dies in Havana.

He served as a surveyor, mathematician, teacher and writer. He excelled in the field of mathematics, writing various works. In 1825 he produced a text on Grammar, and in 1827 another on Arithmetic for the Colegio de Jesús, which he directed between 1822 and 1825. As a teacher he organized a primary school that provided free education to 60 children. He rendered his services in the Education Section of the Royal Patriotic Society of Havana. He also founded the Imprenta Tormentaria, and collaborated in several newspapers. He used the pseudonyms "Radio Vector" and "Tropical".

Regarding his person, the Sociologist, Journalist, Historian and Economist José Antonio Saco expressed: "Such generous behavior on the part of a poor and very poor man, despite the fact that he was at that time one of the most knowledgeable mathematicians, deserved that the Corps Patriotic gave him a small pension, so that he could teach twenty children”.

In his work he contributed to scientific historiography and primary education. He collaborated with the dictionary of provincial words, as well as the study of Geography, Meteorology, Medical Topography and Vocabulary of Surveying.

His birth took place in Havana on November 11, 1792.

It also refers to the situation of public health in the world and in this regard details:

“Man cannot be a commodity, nor can human health be a commodity, because selling, trading, profiting from health is like selling, trading and profiting with slaves, trade and profit from human life. Against all that we have to fight.”
