Havana Design Biennial to be Held

Under the motto Beyond what is possible, the 3rd. Havana Design Biennial (BDH) will take place from May 23 to June 19 in the capital.

Granma reports that at a press conference held at Habana Espacios Creativos (HEC), in Old Havana, the designer Gisela Herrero García, head of the National Office of Industrial Design (ONDi), announced the details of the BDH.

At the meeting, the also president of the event organized by the ONDi, referring to the challenges and importance of this discipline, said: «There will be more and better design in Cuba when there is more design in the home of Cubans. We need an intelligent, daring, perspective design that helps us in the present, but looking towards the future».

Herrero García thanked the support received to carry out this new effort, which she cataloged as a Biennial of resistance, both from the Cuban side and from international institutions and friends. She assured that she is open to the hearts of all, to the brotherhood and the alliance between countries.

According to the organizers, the event, so far, will take place with the virtual and face-to-face participation of designers from Mexico, Nicaragua, Argentina, Colombia, Ecuador, Spain, Italy, Sweden and Cuba, but the Cuban Design Festival aspires to achieve that more and more people and entities approach the discipline, and internalize its value in the economic development of the country. "Today, the link between designers and companies in the state and private sectors and with the academic world is very necessary," recognized Herrero García.

She details this medium, that Habana Espacios Creativos, located at 41, in Teniente Rey, will be the main venue of the Biennial, which for the first time will develop a 100% Cuban design expo-sale, in the Cuba Pavilion, from June 14 to 19 . Likewise, it will reach another 13 exhibition venues in the capital, which will once again celebrate Italian Design Day, on May 26, which is dedicated to coffee.
