Havana to host Guitar Festival
The Guitar Festival will be held from April 14 to 17 in Havana. The event will allow the capital's residents to enjoy the performance of prestigious guitar players in the country.
Organized by the National Center of Concert Music (CNMC), the event counts on the special collaboration of maestro Jesus Ortega.
The meeting is dedicated to the centenaries of Ñico Rojas and César Portillo de la Luz and to the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Nueva Trova Movement.
The concert halls of the Office of the City Historian (Paula Church and Basilica Menor del Convento de San Francisco de Asís), the José Martí National Library and the Cuban Institute of Music (ICM) will be the venues of the event.
The festival will also be extended to the community cultural centers included in the Concert Music: Closer to You project....
An ACN report states that the event will showcase the guitar in its different styles within the genres of classical, popular and traditional music, and will also bring together several generations of musicians in the guitar field and other members of the CNMC's catalog.
Luis Manuel Molina, Yalit González, Mabel González, Carlos Ernesto Varona, Rolando Macías, Dúo Contrastes, Orquesta de Guitarras Sonantas habaneras, Rosalia Mosqueda (lute), as well as the Ensemble Solistas de La Habana and Orquesta de Cámara de La Habana, conducted by maestros Iván Valiente and Daiana García; are among the participants.
They will be joined by guests such as Maestro Joaquín Clerch, and representatives from other provinces: Yosniel Rivera (Pinar del Río), Dúo Savarez (Holguín), Elvira Skourtis (Las Tunas) and Dúo Concuerda (Cienfuegos).
Among the attractions of the day are the revival of a suite composed by Beatriz Corona based on the music of Silvio Rodriguez, and the versions for guitar and string orchestra by Maestro Jesus Ortega on pieces by Isaac Albeniz and Ernesto Lecuona.
Also reserved is the world premiere of the version for guitar and flute of the piece Suite Cubana, composed by Luis Manuel Molina and dedicated to Niurka González, which will be performed by both artists.
Another event to be highlighted in the program is the concert entitled Guitarra entre dos mundos (Guitar between two worlds), directed by Abel Acosta and to be held at the ILM's Jardín de la Música space, where pieces by Matamoros, Ñico Rojas, Sergio Vitier, Leo Brouwer, and particularly trova of all times, will be presented.
The initiative also includes three concerts that will feature students from different levels of artistic education.
The Clave de Sol Guitar Orchestra conducted by Maestra Nuria García, representing the country's Amateur Artists Movement, has also been invited.
