The First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez in his closing remarks at the Balance of the Party in Havana, recognized the quality of the debate for being critical, honest, committed and combative.

The Provincial Assembly of the Party of Havana elected, this Saturday, its Provincial Committee and its Executive Bureau, while ratifying Luis Antonio Torres Iríbar as First Secretary of the Provincial Committee of the Party in the capital.

Torres Iríbar thanked for the confidence placed in him and affirmed that in the coming stage the militants will know how to overcome all challenges, guaranteeing the continuity of the Revolution and Socialism.

As a result of the voting held this Saturday prior to the debate, it was known that all the members of the Provincial Committee of the Party were elected with 100% of the valid votes cast by the 300 delegates participating in the Assembly.

The Cuban president said that the assembly in the capital concludes the process of party balance in the country, whose analysis and conclusions will contribute to the Conference of the Organization, to be held in 2023.

Díaz-Canel pointed out that it has been characterized by mature debates, based on critical, objective and realistic reports on the problems faced by our population.

Regarding the role of the new generations, he emphasized that for there to be unity and continuity, the accompaniment of young people is essential, and insisted on the need to give them the spaces to participate, create and contribute, and "this was demonstrated by the Cuban youth in the confrontation with Covid-19," the head of state stressed.

He also said that the analysis of the main motives and actions that move the Party's work has been carried out in a complex context.

As examples of adverse factors that have marked the current stage, he mentioned the increase of selfishness in the world, above solidarity, the tightening of the blockade and the exacerbation of the US government's aggressiveness towards Cuba, which has intensified since the application of unconventional warfare, the use of toxic media laboratories and the proliferation of media campaigns against the nation.

In this scenario, he warned that for a better world to be possible, it is necessary to improve the virtual world, which is a caricature of the world we are living in. The virtual Cuba has nothing to do with the one our people are leading, with a tremendous work of dignity and dedication, said Díaz-Canel.

In another moment of his speech, he referred to the illegal immigration of Cubans, which has been promoted, since the first years of the Revolution, by the United States government, which treats the issues of democracy and human rights with distortion.

Among the issues that the First Secretary of the Party has pointed out as problems to be solved and also to be faced by the Party, are inflation, high prices, endless queues, instability in the electric energy service and deficiencies in the water supply.

In view of the current situation, there is an enormous challenge of improvement from the Party - Díaz-Canel warned - we are looking inside ourselves and sustaining the tradition of criticism within the Party.

We must take into account the culture of the nation, our essence, our roots, our history, because there are the foundations and answers to our problems, stressed the dignitary.

Miguel Díaz-Canel called for raising ethics because from Fidel we learned that in difficult times we must defend truth and social justice.
