The Tribuna Antimperialista(Anti-imperialism Podium) always stood out since its inauguration for staging the most important events that take place in the capital, related to the history of the homeland and culture.

The emblematic spot always stood out by its architectonic coherence and its harmony with environment and the urban space.

On September, 2017, Hurricane Irma caused serious damage to the site, founded by the historic revolutionary leader Fidel Castro Ruz.

Cuban´s curiosity have increased over time in regard what will happen with this place in a future.

• What has happened with Tribuna Antimperialista?

The intervention at the Anti-imperialism Podium began on September 19,2019 as part of the projects  scheduled for the celebration of the 500th  anniversary of the Foundation of San Cristobal de la Habana, but they were stopped on January 20th, 2021 due to some aspects that were needed to be changed in the ongoing Project, recommended by the Counceling Board for the Development of Monumentary  and Enviromental Sculpture(CODEMA).

After these recommedations,  a Work Group was created and a procedure was stablish on the profesional work to be carried out in which CODEMA and the Empresa de Diseño Habana (DCH) expressed their commitment to the task´s fulfillment.

After a thorough process, both team shared information in progressive meetings headed by the Government of Havana.

DCH elaborated the proposals of modifications to the Integral Project, while CODEMA brainstormed ideas in order to find a solution to the esculptoric element pointed out.

CODEMA´s brainstorming:

Jose Villa Soberón´s proposal was considered , which consisted on inserting a flying pigeons composition in the inner space of the Sculpture to the Flag, with which:

• The tridimentional character of the sculpture was solved and expressed.
• A humanist point of view of the Peace  is attached to the patrotic character of the Flag.
• A non-essential symbolic element is added , linked to Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, creator of this Square.

What new elements would capital citizens be able to enjoy of?

The approved work, is made up by three sculptoric pieces defined as:

1. The Square of the Flag, to which areas with coastal palm trees were included.
2. The Podium for Acts and Events and the multiple use Hall.  
3. The Square, where the former arcs and iron palm trees were eliminated , with a new pavement design and planters that connects the Sculpture to the Flag and the Acussing Marti . The Palm trees ,a sculptoric work by plastic artist Ramón Casas will be re-located in some other spot in the city, previous aproval by CODEMA.

The work carried out in the Project, on which a special care have been taken in consideration will begin on March 22  to be concluded as soon as possible for the enjoyment of the people of the capital citizens of this great events´ scenario.
