Cuban platform created for COVID-19 diagnosis

A computer system that will improve the diagnosis and treatment of patients with COVID-19 has been developed by the medium-sized private company Avangenio.

The RX-COVID-19 tool is awaiting approval from the Center for State Control of Medicines, Equipment and Medical Devices for its generalization in the healthcare system, Dena Puerta Fernández, sales executive of the micro, small and medium-sized enterprise (MSME) specializing in software development, told the Cuban News Agency (ACN).

Puerta Fernandez pointed out that RX-COVID-19 aims to improve the use of X-rays and computed tomography of the chest in the diagnosis of patients, using a standardized evaluation protocol to determine whether or not the lesions are suggestive of SARS-CoV-2 (the virus that causes COVID-19).

The interface will be simple for doctors and specialists to understand, while the web application will allow the generation of reports, usage reports and will have a user's manual, he explained about the product managed in close collaboration with the Cuban Neuroscience Center (CNEURO) and the Society of Imaging.

Avangenio partner Deivi Carmona told ACN that the tool will enable the development of artificial intelligence methods to improve image quality and the extraction of information from the image, in addition to recognizing the quantification and classification of lesions.

RX-COVID-19 is exhibited at the Cuba stand of the International Convention and Fair Informática 2022, as one of the more than 30 winning solutions of the contest Panorama de las Tics en Cuba.

During the opening day of Informática 2022, Regla Angulo Pardo, deputy minister of Public Health, said that digital transformations at the levels of care include changes in infrastructure and the creation of products, which result in adjustments to the roles, standards and culture of those who provide and receive medical services, ACN concludes.
