1939.  The prestigious composer and musician Amadeo Roldán dies in Havana.

He was born in Paris, France, on July 12, 1900.

At the age of five he received his first music lessons.

In 1922 he began to work as first violin in the Havana Symphony Orchestra, founded by Gonzalo Roig. Years later he joined the Havana Philharmonic Orchestra as a violin soloist. In 1931 he founded the Normal School of Music and directed the Municipal Conservatory.

In addition to being a composer, he became a great orchestra conductor. As a creator, among the most significant works of his harvest stands out his Overture on Cuban themes. Regarding this creation, the prestigious writer and music critic, Alejo Carpentier, pointed out that it was full of sensational findings.

He knew English, German, Italian and French and was considered an extremely cultured man and a reader of all the literature available to him.

1939.  Sergio Corrieri is born in Havana.

From a very young age he was related to the theater. He made his debut as a member of the University Theater in 1954 and participated in the representation of a play by Brazilian Joracy Camargo in the Aula Magna of the University of Havana. 

He was a founding member of the Grupo Teatro Estudio and his name appears among the signatories of the document of creation of the legendary group in 1958.

In 1968 he founded, as general director, the also historic Escambray Theater Group, which stood out for being a novel experience of critical and participatory theater. He was a theater professor in several national schools, such as the Municipal School of Art of Marianao, the National School of Art Instructors and also the Higher Institute of Art of Havana.

He has been involved in 14 Cuban films since the founding of the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (ICAIC).
