Havana anniversaries. February 14th.

1953.   With a great revolutionary demonstration the mortal remains of the combatant Rubén Batista Rubio are bid farewell.

He was the first student martyr in the struggle against the tyranny of Fulgencio Batista after the military coup of March 10, 1952.

His corpse was laid out in the Aula Magna of the University of Havana where he was given a guard of honor. A crowd of thousands of people accompanied his remains to the Colon Cemetery. At the front of the demonstration marched a line of women dressed in black, carrying a cloth that read: "The blood of the good ones is not shed in vain".

Ruben Batista was born in the town of Cacocum, in the former province of Oriente, on March 13, 1931. As a student of the Instituto de Segunda Enseñanza he stood out for his intelligence and his quick assimilation of the subjects. He loved sports, especially baseball and chess. To these qualities he added his rebelliousness in the face of injustice.

1990.   The children's group La Colmenita, directed by Carlos Alberto Cremata, is created in Havana.

Iraida Malberti and Carlos Alberto Cremata (Tim) (mother and son) direct a gigantic aquatic show called "Sinfonía para una Perla, en Mar Mayor" at the nautical base of the Central House of the Revolutionary Armed Forces. A few months after that nautical show, it was decided to form a small group of actors for film works with some of those who stood out in the show, and Cremata, then a third year student in the specialty of Theater Direction at the Higher Institute of Art of Cuba, was asked to train them with acting exercises. And on February 14, 1990 ("Valentine's Day") the first 14 members who founded the Group met.

This Cuban children's theater company was declared UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador in 1989.
