Gente Nueva Publishing House launched two new fantasy books.

This Sábado del Libro were presented, both in virtual and in-person attendance modalities, as usual, the titles Los cantares de Sinim: Libro1: la búsqueda, by Malena Zalazar Maciá and La ciudad y el torneo, Libro 2 de la saga La ciudad de sal, by Yoss, both published by Gente Nueva Publishing House in its Ambar collection.

The search is the name that initiates Los cantares de Sinim which is a book that demands some background from the readers about fantasy books due to it develops the traditional topics found in this genre such as the existence of a quest, the conflict of the chosen one, the curse of a prophecy…etc. it also addresses classic plot lines such a role-playing, the creation of a group that undertakes a quest and a journey, aspects that the author also subverts and handles in other ways.

A novel that has undercurrents of meaning throughout the plot where there is much more happening that it is visible and perceptible. Focused on the evolution of its main characters, a girls and boy with gender conflicts-a component that is universalized and updated by the author in a clever way- is a novel that leaves us hooked and eager for a second part delivery.

On the other hand, this book by José Miguel Sánchez, Yoss, is the second part of the saga La ciudad de sal in which the protagonist Ixo of Aigar, experienced mercenary became a warlock´s apprentice get to the Salt City after crossing over the desert in the first delivery of the saga, determined to defeat the White Warlock´s tyranny for which he must participate in a tournament organized by the ruler.

THE most significant elements of the novel are the details created by the author in the formation of a universe that embraces guns’ design, awesome fighting techniques, outstanding traditional dishes, in order to mention some features of the novel.

Combat scenes and the characters ‘features stand out. In this sense the author deconstructs conceptions attributed to color white and brilliant colors in consonance with positive characters and the black and dark ones to negative characters, inverting the symbolic sense of both black and white.

These two proposals are, out of question, a great opportunity for Cuban science fiction and fantasy lovers that is no longer emergent and has become a mature genre which gets more and more followers every day, both writers and readers.
