Havana anniversaries. February 4th

1938.   Helio Orovio is born in the town Santiago de las Vegas.

He graduated at the Universidad de La Habana and stood out as a studious of the Cuban music. He worked as a researcher at the Institute of Ethnology and Folklore of the Academy of Sciences (Instituto de Ethnologic y Folklore de la Academia de Ciencias). He collaborated with several publications and was the author of a Dictionary of Cuban Music. He wrote poems that have been included in Cuban and foreign anthologies.

 

He was the autor of collections of poems, advisor of Cuban television programs and documentaries of Instituto Cubano del Arte e Industria Cinematográficos (ICAIC).

 He died in his town on October 6th, 2008.

 

1962.  In a General Assembly of the people of Cuba, held at Plaza de la Revolución José Martí, the Segunda Declaración de La Habana was approved.

This declaration was the answer to the aggression done, in the diplomatic field, by the United States against Cuba, that, in complicity with Latin-American governments and The Organization of American States got agreements against our country.  

Fidel Castro, in a moment of his speech at the place stated: “Today eyes are looking to our country in the whole world, peoples of all continents are expecting this answer from our homeland”
