Havana anniversaries. February 3rd.

1941.  Jorge Anckerman, the famous pianist, composer and conductor, dies in Havana.  

He was born in the capital of Cuba on March 22, 1877.His father was a spanier originally from Germany and his mother was a Cuban woman from Matanzas. Since he was a child he played the violoncello in the family orchestra as it was a double bass, this way starting his artistic life. When he was ten he conducted a trio and at 16 he composed his first work tittled La gran rumba. He composed around 3200 works. His talent found him a place in the history of the Cuban music.

When he died, his widow gave all his music to the Seminario de Música Popular, at that time, that was headed by the Master Odilio Urfé.

 

1947 Nicolás Dorr is born in Havana.

He was a founder of the Instituto Superior de Arte of Cuba and a teacher of History of Theater and Paywriting, as well as the International Movie, Television and Video School at San Antonio de los Baños; where he delivered several workshops on Film Script and Playwriting. He was an advisor of the Presidency of the Instituto Cubano del Arte e Industria Cinematográfica, ICAIC, and also an advisor on playwriting in different Cuban films like Clandestinos, Hello Hemingway, as well as the script for the comedy Una Casa Colonial. 

He also wrote more than twenty plays, all of them were published and premiered. His Works have been performed in different countries. 

He died on December 18th, 2018, in Havana.
