Authorities of Havana dialogued with religious leaders.

Luis Antonio Torres Iríbar, Prime Secretary of the Cuban Communist Party, and Reinaldo García Zapata, Governor for Havana, hold a meeting with representatives of more than 30 religious institutions in a clime of respect and understanding.

García Zapata explained to more than a hundred religious leaders, the current conditions set by the real conditions of the territory marked by the pandemic, the strengthening of the United States blockade, the constant fight against the media war displayed in order to discredit the Revolution and the worldwide crisis due to Covid-19 outbreak.

He also referred to the tasks that have been prioritized in the province, among them, the fight against Covid-19 pandemic, Plan for the Economy and Budget, the need to boost the economic development of the province, from the base which is part of the progress achieved in the disaggregation.

The Governor pointed out the Assembly Process of the Party, as well as the popular consultation of the Code of the Families, next to initiate.

¨It is not the Code of Marriage, but the code for the defense and protection of the rights of the Cuban family¨, assured.

After the presentation of a video about the work done in the development of vulnerable neighborhoods in the last stage, Torres Iríbar, loaded the active engaging of religious leaders and religious congregations in the communities through the unity and collective work.

He acknowledged the importance of having religious institutions linked to the battle for the neighborhood´s improvement, under the pursuit of moving forward as a perfect unit, for which it just left to figure out the way to do it.

In that sense, he stated that this the best time to do it, due to there is an understanding between the parts, policies approved and indications of the country´s direction.

He pointed out that it would be convenient to analyze how to incorporate churches settled in the municipalities in the spaces where social policy takes shape.

Joel Suárez Rodés, general coordinator of the Memorial Center Martin Luther King, highlighted the importance of making innovations in the field of participation and people´s control.

Other arguments were headed to express that Church is not only in favor of making favors to the society, but I many occasions, has the mechanisms and material and spiritual resources to get to the people, for which it was considered a joint work between the religious centers and government of the country to make progress.

Yuniasky Crespo Valero, member of the Provincial Bureau of the Party, and Lizette González García, Chief of the Ideological Department, talked about the experiences gathered in some municipalities between the government and the church seeking for a solution to the problems, which endorses the need of pursuing a coincidence point to multiply efforts.

They insisted in the need of keep developing strategies starting from what was agreed during the meeting and some other encounters that took place in the municipalities on October and November last year.

Sonia García, functionary for the Central Committee of the Party, commented that the presence of religious institutions has become systematic in the media, and made a call to take in consideration the need to stablish a balance in this regard, due to the high presence of religious denominations in the country.

The First Secretary of the Party in Havana urged to rescue the spirituality, love, solidarity with the vulnerable ones, along with the people´s participation because in those places it is impossible to stay alone in the problems in the homes, but it is possible to concretize transformative social projects, gather values such as decency, honesty, issues where religious institutions could become of a great help.
