8 medicine students in the heart of the capital

By Elena Milagros Godinez Dalmau

From the steps of the University of Havana to the monument at the top, the revolutionary slogans and the memory of those events did not avoid Cuban from paying homage to those innocent young people last Saturday, children of this homeland that always accompanied them. The highest leadership of the country was present ion this emotional march, with the guidance, from the beginning of it, of the medicine students who are currently preparing to serve the Revolution in the Health Sector and continue to demonstrate the value of Cuban Health System.

Alonso Francisco Álvarez, Anacleto Pablo Bermúdez, José Ramón Emilio de Marcos y Medina, Juan Pascal Rodríguez y Pérez, Ángel José Eduardo Laborde y Perera,Eladio Francisco González y Toledo, Carlos Augusto de la Torre y Madrigal, Carlos de Jesús Verdugo y Martínez are now part of the history of this nation and will not be forgotten.

On a November 27th like this last Saturday, 150 years ago, eight students were killed in an infamous act. Just being Cuban was enough for the Spanish colonialism to condemn them for a crime they never committed. Young people who would become professionals of this country and would fight against injustice saw their dreams broken when they were barely between 16 and 21 years of age.

Cuba is on this day a sea of tears, but also a hotbed of struggle that will always remember these heroes and will not break their thirst of justice, equality and Revolution.
