He was born in Poland on August 30th, 1905. Been very young he gave up his studies and started to work as a tailor. When he was 17, in 1922, he joined the Liga Juvenil Comunista and initiated an active revolutionary activity. He was subjected to persecution and was even sentenced to death so at the age of 19 the facts forced him to leave his homeland and he came to Cuba without knowing Spanish. Once in Cuba he joins the Agrupación Comunista de La Habana. In 1925 he was a founder member of the first Marxist Leninist party in Cuba. Three years later he was assigned by this organization, to create the Liga Juvenil Comunista together with Julio Antonio Mella who was a student’s leader. After the triumph of the Revolution in 1959 he was a founder of the Communist Party of Cuba and a member of its Central Committee.

Liga Juvenil Comunista

It was the first Marxist - Leninist organization of the Cuban. The need of creating a youth organization, that according to the agreements of the III Communist International, supported the Party and was a link of transmission of directions among young people, was considered since the Constituent Congress of the Communist Party. However, the adverse conditions of illegality, persecution, and terror imposed by the government of Gerardo Machado in the country, did not allowed this to happen immediately. It is in 1928, when, as a proposal Rubén Martínez Villena made, the Central Committee of the Party creates a commission to organize the Liga Juvenil Comunista.
