Roberto Faz is born in the town of Regla, Havana.

At the age of thirteen he began his artistic career as a member of a children's septet. Later he joined other groups, although his true consecration was achieved when he was called to join the Casino Ensemble and became the main vocalist of this group. He became a great sonero with a powerful voice and a great singularity when interpreting this genre of popular music.  His voice is recorded in about 400 recordings. In his performances he always projected optimism and playfulness. His improvisations were ingenious in the sones montunos and guarachas. He died in Havana on April 26, 1966.

Casino Ensemble

On May 1, 1937 he made his debut in Havana under the name of Sexteto Casino. In 1941 the Sexteto is requested for the musical season of the old Casino Nacional in Marianao beach. The impresarios demanded as a condition for the contract the inclusion of a bolero player. In 1943 the group recorded its first records for RCA Victor. At the end of 1948, very peculiar circumstances propitiated the coincidence, in the CMQ studios, of Conjunto Casino and the Puerto Rican singer Daniel Santos. Together they recorded a curious series of records for RCA Victor, including several boleros. As the years went by, the group achieved great notoriety in the Cuban music scene. Their musical line specialized in bolero and guaracha.
