Join the Reciclando ando contest

The Grupo Empresarial de Reciclaje(GER)has launched a photo contest under the name Reciclando ando on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the creation of its predecessor, the Empresa Consolidada de Recuperación de Materias Primas(Consolidated Raw Materials Recovering Company).

The aim of this initiative is to give visibility to the actors involved in the recovery and recycling of waste generated by the society, in no many cases anonymous.

The contest, with no age limit, has four categories:

  1. The recycling industry, recycling plants and people working. It pursue capturing the spirit and effort of the daily activities of the companies in the industry, so the innovation, creativity and originality character of the photograph will be evaluated.
  2. Recycling in the community. Should reflect the importance of the recycling work carried out by self –employed workers and regular recyclers who usually go to the fixed recycling spots.
  3. Recyclable waste. It defends the concept that much waste, far from being a problem , in an opportunity and a valuable resource, so the theme and the variety of waste generated should be taken into account, with images that reflect wastes in solitary forms, in bales, in bulk or some other variants.
  4. The photographic history of the recovery of war materials in Cuba. It will be possible to present old and historical photographs of the recycling and waste recovering sector in the country since its beginnings with the Empresa Consolidada de Materias Primas up to present time.

According to the call for entries, the works will be received until September 30th, at the Empresa de Recuperación de Materias Primas of each province and each work presented must provide personal data such as: name and surname of the author, age, home address, telephone number and email-address.

GER processes, recovers and markets recyclable waste from a wide range of materials, including ferrous, non- ferrous ( bronze, copper, aluminum and zinc) and non-metallic (glass, plastic, papers, textiles and cardboard)scrap.

Traditionally, the Unión de Empresas de Materias Primas, which became the Grupo Empresarial de Reciclaje(GER), has developed contests aimed at raising awareness among the opulation, especially children, about the recovering of raw materials and recycling.

However, a large part of the possible resources to be recovered end up in containers and this is due to the fact that an integral system and environmental education have not been created to encourage the maximum recycling of what is discarded in the productive and domestic sectors.
