New protocols established to face Covid- 19

Ministry of Public Health in Cuba, José Ángel Portal Miranda, announced this Wednesday in Matanzas the new protocols to be applied in facing Covid-19 outbreak, which streamlines diagnose and treatment in positive cases.

The new ways of acting that will be spread along the country will start to be applied in Matanzas due to its high transmission rate.

Portal Miranda explained that, according to the high reliability of the antigen tests (over the 92% in Cuba and more than 95 % in Matanzas) it was determined to consider positive cases to any asymptomatic patient detected by this tests.

In case the antigen test shows a negative result in symptomatic patients that have been confirmed as contact of a positive case or come from epidemiologically complex areas, a PCR will be done.

According to this protocol, if the patient shows any symptom and the antigen test is negative, but it is proved that the person in not a contact from a confirmed case, with a similar result, a PCR test will be done.

Ministry of Public Health emphasized, under the aim of avoiding transmissibility, it is indicated that all contacts of positive cases should remain isolated even with a negative test result.
