Luís Abreu dies in Havana

Luis Abreu was one of the founders of the musical group known as Los Papines. They began playing variants of rumba and transcended to break out as a show group, appreciated in more than 40 countries over half a century. As a percussionist and singer, before joining the legendary quartet, he played with various orchestras and ensembles in nightclubs in the capital. In addition to being a pianist and composer, he was a performer of indisputable value. He meticulously studied the songs that he would incorporate into his repertoire and transmitted his natural charisma, characterized by originality and mischief.

Los Papines

It is a musical group that in its beginnings as a quartet was made up of brothers Alfredo, Jesús, Luis and Ricardo Abreu. Founded in 1963, it is one of the best-known rumba groups in Cuba and abroad. At present other members of the family continue the group’s tradition.
