In which municipality of Havana is the Plaza Gallega located?

The Gallega Square of Havana is located in the municipality of Cerro. It is exactly in the area of Peñón and Santo Tomás streets.

Its construction began on July 13, 1992 and is the result of a donation from the Junta de Galicia. It is a replica of a similar square that was mounted in Vigo when the III World Fishing Exhibition in 1991. Manuel Fraga, president of the Junta de Galicia, proposed to create a similar plaza in Cuba and chose to locate it in that place in Havana since there they had lived Spaniards and because from September of 1991, date in which the tarja was placed, the neighbors called it Place of Galicia. All the materials of the work came from Galicia including tiles, benches, bricks, typical plants of the Galician region, stonework stones and marbles. The work was carried out by the Spanish designer Francisco D¨Salas and the businessman Alfonso Paz Andrade and the Cuban engineer Olga Lidia González. The square stands out for its sobriety and simplicity and interrelates with the architectural ensemble.
