Havana Team Advances to U-15 National Baseball Final, While U-18 Squad Misses Medal Contention

The Havana team qualified for the final of the U-15 National Baseball Championship, while in the U-18 category, the capital's players were left out of medal contention.

Brief news from Matanzas, the event’s host, indicated that the Havana schoolboys won the Western semifinal undefeated this weekend, securing victories against Pinar del Río (the other finalist), the local team, and Cienfuegos.

Havana, the 2024 runner-up, will play the U-15 final in July in Ciego de Ávila as part of the National School Games. Alongside Havana and Pinar del Río, the top two teams from the Eastern semifinal—Santiago de Cuba and Ciego de Ávila—will also compete in the final round-robin.

Meanwhile, in the U-18 category, the capital’s team was eliminated from medal contention after finishing third in the Western semifinal held in Villa Clara. The young Lions only managed to defeat Pinar del Río (5-4) but lost to Villa Clara (1-3) and in the decisive match against the locals (6-10). Villa Clara and Matanzas advanced to the medal round, which will take place starting the 20th of this month in Sancti Spíritus.
