Cuba: Better without Blockade

For the thirtieth time, Cuba submits this Thursday for consideration by the UN General Assembly, the resolution on the need to end the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States, which it has received in successive votes over three decades. the almost unanimous support of the international community.

On this day of the 77th session of the General Assembly, the Cuban Foreign Minister, Bruno Rodríguez, presents to the plenary the report in which the effects caused by the unilateral policy of the US Government are denounced.

This Wednesday the interventions of representatives of some 30 national delegations were heard, some also on behalf of organizations such as NAM, Asean, Sica, Caricom and Celac, who presented arguments about their votes, support for Cuba and rejection of the US policy based on the principles of the United Nations Charter and international law.

According to the most recent Cuban report on the effects of this unilateral coercive policy, only between August 2021 and February 2022 the blockade caused Cuba losses in the order of 3,806.5 million dollars. The figure is 49% higher than that reported between January and July 2021 and a record in just seven months.

At current prices, the accumulated damages during six decades of the blockade amount to 150,410.8 million dollars, with a great weight in sectors such as health and education, added to the damage to the national economy and the quality of life of Cuban families.

In the first 14 months of the Biden government alone, the losses caused by the blockade amounted to 6,364 million dollars, which is equivalent to an affectation of more than 454 million dollars a month and more than 15 million dollars a day, according to with the document.
