Get to know the visual identity of the 43rd Havana Film Festival

With the slogan Cine a lo grande, the new visual identity of the 43rd edition of the International Festival of New Latin American Cinema was presented at a press conference held this Thursday at the headquarters of the film event, which will take place from December 1 to 11 in La Havana.

The cia, after two years marked by the impact of Covid-19 and various adjustments to its schedule of screenings and collateral activities, will return to its traditional format.

According to Tribuna La Habana, the image and communication campaign for the 2022 edition were designed by Nelson Ponce and Raúl Valdés, artistically known as Raupa.

In this sense, Valdés González specified that in a context marked by the consumption of audiovisuals on mobile devices, both the poster and the advertisement of the Festival refer to the chain of events that take place inside a movie theater, as a kind of ritual for those who prefer to enjoy a good movie on the big screen.

He refers, said the artist, to the great party that represents the arrival of this cultural event for lovers of the seventh art.

For his part, Ponce Sánchez stressed that with his posters for the event he always tries to generate a controversy on debatable topics and the image for the 43rd edition was no exception because he insists on how the existence of new multimedia platforms, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic COVID-19 affects the consumption of cinema in traditional spaces.

According to Yumey Besú Payo, director of the International Festival of New Latin American Cinema, at the close of the call on August 30, more than 2,200 films were registered, a high number in terms of film production in the region that will force specialists and organizers to an arduous selection process.

He pointed out that 200 posters and around 220 unpublished scripts were submitted to the contest, which after undergoing an official selection will opt for the award in both categories.

As a novelty, he pointed out that, by decision of the Organizing Committee, the delivery of the Arrecife Award is included, a new award that will recognize the Latin American work that best reflects the queer theme or another linked to the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transsexual and Intersex community. (LGBTIQ+).

Not only the films in competition will be eligible for this diversity award, Besú Payo said.

Besú insisted that the passport will be resumed as a usual form of access to the capital's cinemas that have the cinematographic appointment.

The event will have as its fundamental purpose to recognize and disseminate cinematographic works that contribute, based on their significance and artistic values, to the enrichment and reaffirmation of Latin American and Caribbean cultural identity.

Founded on December 3, 1979 by the Cuban filmmaker Alfredo Guevara and with the presence of more than 600 filmmakers, the contest awards the Grand Coral Prize as its highest distinction, which symbolizes the great reefs of the Caribbean Sea.
