The Company of Traditional Dances of Cuba will celebrate its 30th birthday.

On September 21, the JJ Traditional Dance Company of Cuba will celebrate its 30th anniversary and the celebration will take place with a show at the National Theater of Cuba.

According to Prensa Latina (PL), the group's birthday joins the celebrations of the Cabildo Obá Yemí Community Project, both born from the ingenuity of the teacher and 2020 National Dance Award Winner, Johannes García, who is also the main promoter of the Popular Dance Festival and Lounge on the island.

The presentation, which will take place on the emblematic Cuban stage, is scheduled for September 23 and 24 with the name "Here We Are" and a selection of the most outstanding choreographies of the dance group's artistic career.

Three decades after its foundation, the group led by García works to strengthen the bond with the communities to consolidate the artistic movement of the Caribbean nation and attract the younger public that lives in those places where others are limited to arriving.

To meet these objectives, the members of the group visit some of the neighborhoods of the city of Havana every Friday to develop workshops, show the artistic culture and get the less visible talents out of there.

After recruitment, said Johannes García, the people who are selected receive more specific classes on the execution of a certain dance or music and share presentations with the group.

This is how we managed to motivate them and delve into the origin and technique of popular dances that are part of the identity and are the essence of Cuban nationality, said the creator who these days works for the Festival of Popular and Ballroom Dances.

In its fifth edition, scheduled from November 30 to December 4, 2022, it will exalt the rumba for its importance in the development of dance and music and its legacy in other expressions such as salsa, casino and timba.

The creative collective aspires to achieve an inclusive event that unites the wisdom of the most experienced with the desire to learn from young people, whether they are amateurs, tourists or dance professionals.
