Opening of the first Díaz Peláez Abstract Art Hall

The Plaza Culture Directorate and the “José Antonio Díaz Peláez” Experimental Center for Visual Arts invite you to the opening of the First Díaz Peláez Abstract Art Hall, on September 15, at 5 p.m. at the Belkis Ayón gallery, located at Calle 23 No. 712 corner C, El Vedado. According to the curator Abenamar Bauta, a total of 48 medium and small format works were selected, and 47 will be exhibited in the hall: twenty acrylics on canvas or cardboard, 22 made in mixed media and three oil paintings. Out of competition, eight pieces bearing the signature of masters of Cuban abstraction will be exhibited, three of them National Plastic Arts Awards.

Creators from ten provinces with works conceived in the last five years are added to the sample. In some of them you can see the impact of everything experienced during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The room pays tribute to the artist José Antonio Díaz Peláez. Its first edition is dedicated to the painter Carlos Trillo (1941-2022), one of the most famous and talented painters of abstractionism in the Greater Antilles, recently deceased. The collective exhibition is an initiative of the Cuban Abstract Art Movement (MAAC) project, sponsored by the Plaza's Department of Culture. Since 2019, more than thirteen Abstract Art exhibitions have been inaugurated. Similarly, a WhatsApp group was created, with an ecumenical character, baptized as "Cuban Abstracts" that has made it possible to contact more than 50 artists from all over the country.
