Deaf people of Havana in the sights of a world day.

People with hearing disabilities in Havana, and in the rest of the country, will be active protagonists of the International Week of the Deaf, scheduled for September 19-25, and which this year will be celebrated under the slogan Building inclusive communities for all.

The date also serves as an opportunity to commemorate World Sign Language Day, established by the United Nations (UN) in 2017 and commemorated since that date every September 23, as a way to support and protect linguistic identity and cultural diversity of that population segment.

In Cuba, the date recognizes the many achievements made by the deaf community, and the impact that their actions have on the population in general.

Tribuna de La Habana informs that with the purpose of showing the social perception about Deaf People in the world, as well as the inclusion of their sign languages in diverse societies, the National Association of the Deaf (ANSOC) and the National Center for Overcoming and Development of Deaf People (CENDSOR) call for a contest that includes two sections: one aimed at deaf people categorized by age as follows: from 6 to 12 years old, from 13 to 17 years old, from 17 to 25, and older 25 years old.

Those included here will be able to make creations that are tempered with the title My signed world or My world in sign language.

According to the call, only one work is admitted for each contestant and it is in the modality of Visual Arts -painting and photography-, whose delivery deadline is September 25.

You must send a clearly visible image of the complete work to the emails ritisimova002@gmail.com or yoelmoya@gmail.com

The same, through whatsapp, to telephone numbers 52883543 or 52868880.

The other section is for listening university students of all ages, who can compete in Visual Arts (drawing and photography only) and in Literature. In this case, the materials created must respond to the title Deaf People in Current Cuban Society.

Only one work will be accepted for each contestant and it is essential that the clearly visible image of the complete work or the attached text in pdf format be sent to the aforementioned emails and whatsapp phone numbers.

In order for the works to be received, it is required to accompany them with the following information: names and surnames, age, province, municipality, as well as the study or work center. University students must indicate the course they are studying.

The results will be announced on the CENDSOR social networks during the last week of September.
