Tribute concert to Astor Piazzolla in Havana

A tribute concert with the most relevant of the vocal work of the relevant Argentine musician Astor Piazzolla will take place on September 14, at 6:00 p.m., local time, in the Minor Basilica of the Convent of San Francisco de Asís, in Old Havana .

The outstanding radio host and artistic director of the show, Helson Hernández, informed Prensa Latina on Wednesday that the unique Piazzollada presentation in Havana will unite Argentine and Cuban artists on stage.

The soprano Lola Barrios and the pianist Leandro Marquesano, both from Argentina, will take part, together with the Cuban singers Anais Abreu, Anabell López, Beny Luis, Samantha Correa and Merlyn Cruz.

They will be accompanied by pianists Rosa García Oropesa and Lisa María Blanco, clarinetist José Ernesto Rodríguez, violinists Lizzy Yodú and Camila Crespo, cellist Amaya Justiz, and violist Chary Mar Boch, all from the Caribbean island.

The repertoire includes songs from the opera “María de Buenos Aires”, premiered at the Gran Teatro de La Habana Alicia Alonso in 2015, this time with part of that cast made up of the actor Jorge Luis de Cabo, the tenor Jorge Félix Leyva, the soprano Pilar Pousada and mezzo-soprano Malú Méndez.

Among the vocal works that will complete the program, Oblivion, Libertango, Ave María Tanti anni prima, Balada para un loco, Chiquilín de bachín, Siempre se Vuelve a Buenos Aires, Los Pájaros Perdidos, among many others, also stand out.

The concert is sponsored by the Argentine embassy in this country, the Astor Piazzolla Foundation chaired by the composer's widow Laura Escalada, CMBF National Musical Radio, the Cuban Ministry of Culture and the Havana Historian's Office.

Astor Piazzolla (1921-1992) was an Argentine bandoneon player and composer, considered by critics to be one of the most important musicians of the 20th century, and one of the most relevant tango composers in the world.
