World Junior Judo Championships: Bravo for Kimi

As the most outstanding sporting event in the capital in recent days, the bronze medal won, last Tuesday, by Kimi Bravo (-66 kg) in the Championship can be described.

Guayaquil Youth Judo World Cup 2022. According to press reports, the giraldillo was used to the full to beat the Gabonese Fernand Nkero in the initial combat, whom he surpassed in an electrifying way, by ippon of three shidos, when only 10 seconds remained.

The quality of the judoka born in the largest city in Cuba was again evident in his second outing to the tatami, when he won the Kazakh Zhanarys Rakhmetkali by waza-ari-awaseteippon, after 3:01 minutes of struggle.

It was in his third duel that defeat came in Kimi's way, beaten by waza-ari by Romanian Ioan Dzitac. Such a disaster was not enough to get this young promise (19 years old) of judo from the capital and all of Cuba out of concentration, because in the playoffs he was able to resurface to defeat the Hungarian Balit Gombas, and thus deserve access to the discussion of the bronze medal.

In that decisive confrontation, Kimi lived up to his surname and came out impetuous against the Moldovan Radu Izvoreanu, and the positive result came by ippon via hansoku-make, only 15 seconds after regulation time.

In this way, with four wins and a solitary setback, Kimi Bravo took possession of a magnificent medal

bronze, identical performance to the one he achieved in November 2021 at the I Junior Pan American Games

Cali-Valle 2021 (individual and team), and in the National Men's Judo Championship held

in April, in Matanzas. Less than a month and a half ago (July 2) he won the crown in the -73 kg category at the I Caribbean Games, held in Guadeloupe.

This World Junior Judo Championship concluded this Sunday with the team matches.
