We are winning, the night was calmer, the fire has continued to be extinguished successfully and today we can say that it is controlled, these were the assessments of Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Ávalo Jorge, Second Chief of the National Department of Extinction of the Fire Department of Cuba, at a television press conference this Wednesday to update on the current situation and planned actions to put out the fire at the Matanzas Supertankers Base.

Ávalo Jorge specified that they are working on cooling the battery of 50,000-liter tanks and extinguishing with aerial means some isolated sources caused by fuel spills, as well as on earthworks, because they have had to make new streets to be able to reach the fire.

Already today, he said, we feel calmer, but we are attentive. Putting out the fire will not be possible today, because there are still risks, he said.

The Second Chief of the National Department of Extinction of the Cuban Fire Department, commented: The work with Venezuelan and Mexican experts has been a useful and unique experience for all, we have worked as a true work team that transmits energy and has fostered the exchange of experiences.

Similarly, he thanked the great support of the people, cooperatives, MiPymes, artists, self-employed workers, among others.
