The 45th anniversary of the creation of the Center for Martian Studies (CEM) will be commemorated this Tuesday in a ceremony at the institution's headquarters, in which researchers, collaborators and scholars of the work of the most universal of Cubans, José Marti.

On the day they will deliver the Thinking is serving distinction, whose original title is Thinking, foreseeing, serving, and constitutes the highest recognition granted by the entity to those Cuban and foreign personalities and institutions that have stood out in the work of promoting life, work and thought of the intellectual author of Moncada.

Founded on July 19, 1977 and attached to the Cuban Ministry of Culture, prominent intellectuals and personalities of Cuban culture have been linked to the CEM. Among them Armando Hart, Cintio Vitier, Fina García, Ángel Augier, Juan Marinello, Julio Le Riverand and Roberto Fernández Retamar, its first director.

The mission of the CEM is to contribute to the study, research and dissemination of the life, thought and work of the National Hero of Cuba, especially among children and young people, in addition to being a repository of his work.

For more than four decades, the CEM has carried out extensive postgraduate research and teaching work, periodically organizing academic meetings, scientific conferences, colloquiums and seminars.

It is a kind of academy, where there are experts who study the work of the Apostle, prepare the critical edition of his complete works, his greatest scientific and editorial project.

As of 1978, the publication of the Anuario began, a very up-to-date encyclopedia on the thought and work of Martí, which brings together texts with defined profiles, outstanding for the prestige of their authors.

Nearly three decades later, the José Martí Portal, founded in 2007, displays texts and images, with the purpose of disseminating and updating national and international events regarding the Master's work.

Regarding the work of the CEM, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of its creation, the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, said: "Our people, acutely sensitive to everything related to their most precious essences, know very well that in the Center de Estudios Martianos has a powerful battering ram and a formidable trench of ideas”.
