To consult version 32 of the preliminary draft of the Communication Law

The preliminary draft of the Social Communication Law is available from this Tuesday the 12th on the website of the Ministry of Justice for citizens to read and consult.

Onelio Castillo Corderí, vice president of the Cuban Institute of Radio and Television, explained to the national and foreign press accredited in the country that the proposed regulation, in its version 32, addresses the strategic and integrated management of social communication processes in the areas institutional, media and community.

In turn, he specified that it deals with the role of this process in physical and digital public spaces, as well as the principles of organization and operation for all social media.

He highlighted that in the current month of July one of the most important stages begins with consultations by citizens, the main subjects of the communication processes, as corroborated by the draft.

In addition to specialists in all instances, people will be able to express opinions on the content of the text through digital channels such as social networks and email: leycomunicacionsocial@minjus.gob.cu, which demonstrates the participatory and democratic nature of the elaboration of the rule.

For Jorge Legañoa Alonso, vice president of the Union of Journalists of Cuba, the country reaches an unprecedented, robust and strategic law proposal for the construction of a communication system in the largest of the Antilles, and allows education in information and communication to the public.

He expressed that the draft of the Social Communication Law is inclusive, since the regulations on communication at the global level focus on specific characteristics, while in the case of Cuba, dispersion prevailed in legislative issues, beyond the media field.

In Legañoa Alonso's opinion, the text opens an opportunity for an effective relationship between the press, institutions and sources, and enables the editorial and economic transformation of the media.

Humberto Fabían Suárez, vice president of the Cuban Association of Social Communicators, pointed out that the proposal released today is the result of exhaustive documentary research on the legal norms that have been established in the world, especially in Latin America.

309 regulations of the nation were reviewed to verify the treatment given to communication, in addition to another 61 documents from the funds of the Cuban History Institute, he detailed.

Throughout its 12 chapters, the preliminary draft regulates communication in the community, media and institutional spheres, communication in cyberspace, process management, as well as matters related to advertising and sponsorship, and the image and country brand.
