Convention of English Language Specialists Begins in Havana

With the participation of more than thirty professionals from the capital, the XXV Convention of English Language Specialists (GELI), of the Association of Linguists of Cuba, begins this Thursday, which will meet in Havana until the 18th.

The meeting, which will be held for the first time in person and virtually, is hosted by the Institute of Literature and Linguistics, in the municipality of Centro Habana, and the French Alliance, in Old Havana, and as an essential premise continuous professional development in a sustainable world.

A note published on the GELI profile on Facebook informs that the British Council Cuba is also collaborating in this meeting in which the results of the work carried out by the teachers and the professional improvement actions will be shared to raise the quality of teaching and learning English in Cuba at all educational levels.

Regarding the objectives of the event, the Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences Miriam López Serrano, a member of the organizing committee, in statements to Tribuna de La Habana, commented that the purpose is to evaluate the stimulation of professional and human growth through various actions; including meetings, summer courses, projects, exchanges and forums.

Experts from Mayabeque, Artemisa, Pinar del Río, Villa Clara, Cienfuegos and Santiago de Cuba also attend, while representatives from all provinces will intervene through the use of the Internet.

The program of the event includes presentations, book presentations and the debates will revolve around socializing experiences on how they guaranteed overcoming in times of pandemic, achievements and projects, based on the conditions created in the country in terms of computerization and mass education. .

GELI was founded in 1989 in order to raise the quality of teaching and learning of that language in Cuba.
