Training ship of the Argentine Navy visits Cuba

Upon arrival at the port of Havana, ship captain Aldo Perera, department head of the Revolutionary Navy, and the ambassador of that southern nation on the island, Luis Ilarregui, welcomed the 326 crew members of the vessel , which touches Cuban port for the third time since 1976.

The commander of the Libertad frigate, Captain Carlos Schavinsky, expressed to the press his satisfaction at the opportunity to exchange experiences, share traditions and culture with the Caribbean nation, and contribute to strengthening bilateral ties of friendship and camaraderie.

He affirmed that the stay will complement the preparation of 92 future officers of that armed body from Argentina, and invited midshipmen from other countries, as well as direct contact with his Cuban peers and the population, whom he invited to visit the sailboat from 14 to June 16 between 14:00 and 18:00 local time.

The sailors plan a program of activities that includes courtesy visits to the presidency of the Provincial Assembly of People's Power (Government) of Havana and the Granma Naval Academy.

The frigate (Q-2) ARA Libertad is a sailing ship with double topsails and three crossed masts, belonging to the Argentine Navy's Sea Fleet. The maximum height of the mainmast is 49.8 meters and it has six electric winches for maneuvering the sails.

This is the ship's 50th instructional voyage, during which she will visit 11 ports in America and Europe.
