They will celebrate XIII Conference for the Day of the Cuban Librarian

The XIII Conference for the Day of the Cuban Librarian, dedicated to the Ada Elba Pérez library and to Havana, will take place from June 6 to 10 in the Historic Center.

Habana Radio reports that the event will also celebrate the 25th anniversary of the founding of the House of Poetry and the 40th anniversary of the declaration of Havana and its fortification system as a World Heritage Site.

It proposes a broad program of actions that will include spaces dedicated to cinema related to poetry and an exchange of specialists on working with poetry as a documentary typology.

Among the activities, the space dedicated to cinema stands out, in which teenagers will debate the film The Dead Poets Club, by director Peter Weir. Minstrels and reciters will star in the Books in Motion campaign, thanks to which, in an invitation to read, books will be delivered to those who pass through the streets of the Historic Center at that time.

Also, the Castle of San Salvador de La Punta, the Castle of La Real Fuerza and the outskirts of the Morro, will host the so-called exchange houses, a BookCrossing initiative (practice of leaving books in public places so that other readers exchange them for the that they are there).

The Rubén Martínez Villena Public Library will develop from June 1 to 7, the Program of actions in homage to the Cuban Librarian's Day, which will include conferences, exhibitions, audiovisual projections and exchanges with cultural personalities.

Throughout the month, at the Gabriela Mistral Library of the Hispano-American Cultural Center: Suggestion of the month space, with an exhibition related to the activities for Librarian's Day in the Historic Center.

From June 7 to 14, at the Casa de Asia Rabindranath Tagore Library: Bibliographic exhibition The Asian narrative on libraries, which will include books on library professionals and institutions from that continent.

Cuban Librarian's Day is celebrated on June 7 in tribute to the birth on June 7, 1812 of Antonio Bachiller y Morales, one of the most distinguished Cuban intellectuals: a prolific journalist, historian, lawyer and bibliographer, considered the father of the Cuban bibliography and by José Martí as Patriarch of our letters, given that his work marks the beginning of library science studies in Cuba.

This annual commemoration, instituted by the Revolutionary Government through Decree No. 86 of the year 1981, since June 7 of this year is used to honor our librarians, as well as to recognize with the delivery of the Commemorative Seal "Antonio Bachiller y Morales" the work of writers, editors and all those who contribute to the cultural and scientific development of the nation.
