Authorities of the capital visit areas affected by the overflow of the Almendares River

The effects caused by the intense rains in the El Fanguito community and in the La Polar settlement were evaluated this afternoon by the highest partisan and government authorities of the city, during a tour of those areas.

In the first of them they could see the mudflat left by the overflow of the Almendares River that penetrated the houses near the riverbank, considered by the neighbors as the one with the greatest speed and penetration range.

The president of the Municipal Assembly of People's Power, Osmani Arcia Peñate, reported that 48 people had been evacuated to the municipal Palace of Pioneers, including six minors and two infants.

Previously, the leaders had appreciated the flooding of the settlement located on the land of the old La Polar factory, right on the border of the municipalities of Cerro, Plaza de la Revolución and Marianao, where it was necessary to evacuate a group of families.

This settlement is located very close to the course of the Almendares River, where a small bridge broke, causing the accumulation of water and the consequent overflow that flooded the area.

In a second flood, the accumulated water overflowed the demolished bridge, and ran downhill in the course causing the flood on the El Fanguito riverbank.

The first secretaries of the Party in Cerro and Plaza de la Revolución, as well as provincial directors of Housing, Construction, and other officials also participated in the tour.
